If you like the Hamilton Murph 38mm's black dial and cathedral-hand style but want a battery-powered watch at a lower price, the Militado ML08 is worth comparing. Start with the Vintage Black or Black BGW9 versions: the ML08 family also includes other hands, dial layouts and date-equipped configurations.
The main decision is whether you want Hamilton's automatic watch or a similarly styled quartz option. This comparison uses current product specifications and photographs, rather than a hands-on quality or durability test.

Choose the right ML08 dial
The Vintage Black (C3 lume) version has warm-colored numerals and cathedral-style hands. The Black (BGW9 lume) version uses a lighter-colored numeral and hand treatment. Both photographed configurations have a broad-arrow dial mark and no date window. These differences are visible in the product photographs; lume labels alone do not establish brightness or overnight performance.
At the check above, each dial was available on nylon for $69 or a steel bracelet for $79. The nylon choices are Vintage Black C3 and Black BGW9. Stock varies by configuration.
Decide whether quartz suits the purchase
The selected ML08 versions provide battery-powered timekeeping with a sweep-style seconds display. They suit buyers who prefer quartz ownership and a no-date dial. For the movement's operating details, see our VH31 guide.
Keep the Murph on your shortlist if its H-10 automatic movement, rear movement view or Hamilton identity is central to the purchase. Choosing a similar-looking quartz watch changes those parts of the experience.
Check the crystal and fit without assuming equivalence
Hamilton's current specification explicitly lists anti-reflection treatment. Older discussions claiming the Murph has none should not be used as the basis for this comparison. Both watches list sapphire and AR; those labels do not tell us which finished watch produces fewer reflections. No controlled side-by-side optical or lume test is offered here.
For the ML08, the listing gives a 44.5mm lug-to-lug length. Compare that with a watch that fits you, then consider the chosen strap or bracelet. Matching 38mm diameters does not guarantee identical wrist fit, and the listed thickness figures are not our own measurements.
Which should you choose?
- Choose ML08 Vintage Black if warm-colored details, cathedral-style hands and lower-cost quartz ownership match your priorities.
- Choose ML08 Black BGW9 if you prefer the lighter dial details in the second photograph.
- Choose the Hamilton if you want the Murph itself and its automatic specification.
